Dear at91 members,

I have an Embest board based on AT91SAM9261 microcontroller. It is running Embest Linux which is of following version:

~ $ uname -a
Linux sbc6000x 2.6.24 #10 Tue Aug 17 15:04:10 CST 2010 armv5tejl unknown

Here I want to set the static IP address of the board. But the problem which I am facing is that it has no /etc/network folder and /etc/network/interfaces file due to which I am unable to set its IP address to static.

So can you guys please help me out in this regard , how to change the IP address of the board to static.

regards

You're rather vague, and this phrasing suggests that the network interface is already configured for a dynamic IP address.
So you first have to disable the DHCP request(s) (assuming you don't want to use a reserved IP address).

The simplest method of assigning a static IP address to a network interface is through the kernel command line.
The ip= parameter is intended for mounting a NFS rootfs, but it can be simplified for just IP address assignment.
For example,
  • ip=192.168.99.123:::::eth0:on
added to the kernel command line (e.g. the bootargs environment variable in U-Boot) will work.
Refer to Documentation/filesystems/nfs/nfsroot.txt for full details.
