Unable to get the SAMA5D27 SOM1 EK running

Thu Mar 07, 2019 11:35 am

Hi All,

No matter what I do, I am not able to get the SAMA5D27 SOM1 Evaluation Kit running.
Using both of the available SD connectors, I get:

(0.000) RomBOOT<LF><CR>
(0.150)
(0.000) AT91Bootstrap 3.8.11 (Thu Oct 11 17:16:10 UTC 2018)
(0.020)
(0.000) SD/MMC: Image: Read file u-boot.bin to 0x23f00000
(0.000) MMC: ADMA supported
(0.009) SD: Card Capacity: High or Extended
(0.000) SD: Specification Version 3.0X
(0.020) *** FATFS: f_read: error
(0.010) SD/MMC: Failed to load image
(17:16.190) RomBOOT<LF><CR>

(0.000) SD/MMC: Image: Read file u-boot.bin to 0x23f00000
(0.000) MMC: ADMA supported
(0.020) SD: Card Capacity: High or Extended

(2.589) SDHC: Error: No Card Inserted
(0.010) *** FATFS: f_open, filename: [u-boot.bin]: error
(0.025) SD/MMC: Failed to load image

Both SD connectors fail.
SD (tried two) are brand new, used Rufus-3.4 and balenaEtcher for getting the image on the SD.
I also tried all the images available on the page linux4sam/bin/view/Linux4SAM/Sama5d27Som1EKMainPage

Any idea's?

Kind regards,

"SD" is an adjective, and not a noun.
Presumably you are referring to SD cards.

Something "brand new" really means that its reliability is unknown.
You need to use a SD card that has been tested and is known to be reliable.

How did you validate the SD card after the image was copied?
Did you try to mount the vfat filesystem in the first partition on the "brand new" SD card, and read the files?

A vfat dirty bit that is set will cause a read failure in AT91Bootstrap.
Make sure that the vfat filesystem in the first partition is properly unmounted, or perform a fsck to clean that filesystem.

The Linux4SAM demo images only work in the SDMMC0 (J12), full- size SD card socket.
