Is my flash unusable?

Mon Aug 08, 2016 1:31 pm

Hello,
I have a new SAMA5D3 Xplained board. Unfortunately, as I use the sam-ba application with the board I got the following messages.
By erasing I got bad pages:

Code: Select all

...
Erased 131072 bytes at address 0x00c60000 (4.88%)
Skipped bad pages at offset 0x00c80000
Erased 131072 bytes at address 0x00c80000 (4.93%)
Skipped bad pages at offset 0x00ca0000
Erased 131072 bytes at address 0x00ca0000 (4.98%)
...
and writing is sometimes unsuccessful:

Code: Select all

...
Wrote 24576 bytes at address 0x00252000 (10.13%)
/home/rooholah/mcg/sam-ba_3.1.3/qml/SAMBA/Applet.qml:530: Error: Could not write pages at address 0x00258000 (applet returned success but did not write enough data)
Connection closed.
Does it mean the the flash is not usable and I should invoke the guaranty and send the board back?

Bad blocks are a fact of life with (raw) NAND flash.
Did you boot the board with the pre-installed demo system?

Yes, the pre-installed demo system was functional, but then I tried to flash my own system, and I got these two kinds of error. Now, does sam-ba application will take care, and can I safely ignore these errors?
