iio ADC Driver buffer instructions on AT91SAM

Mon May 25, 2015 10:04 am

When following the instructions on linux4sam/bin/view/Linux4SAM/IioAdcDriver
on a SAMA5D4 Xplained Ultra with the 4.7 linux distro,
I works for me if I use a different trigger name than what's on the instruction page.

This post to check if that's to do with my flavor of the distro, or if it's a typo on the web page.

It's about the trigger name fc034000.adc-dev0-external.

Under section Testing the buffer, the instructions read:

Code: Select all

# ./generic_buffer -n fc034000.adc -t fc034000.adc-dev0-external -l 2
and output reads

Code: Select all

iio device number being used is 0
iio trigger number being used is 3
/sys/bus/iio/devices/iio:device0 fc034000.adc-dev0-external

Replicating that on my board fails.

Code: Select all

iio device number being used is 0
Failed to find the trigger fc034000.adc-dev0-external
I have to use fc034000.adc-dev0-continuous as trigger name. It works then.

Code: Select all

# ./generic_buffer -n fc034000.adc -t fc034000.adc-dev0-continuous -l 2
iio device number being used is 0
iio trigger number being used is 0
/sys/bus/iio/devices/iio:device0 fc034000.adc-dev0-continuous
193.000000
296.000000
678.000000
715.000000
Is this different name related to my distro, or a typo in the instructions?

Neither.
You probably don't have a "distro".
I'm not aware of anything named simply "the 4.7 linux distro". You are probably using the linux4sam_4.7 kernel with some demo root filesystem image.
A kernel, a DTB file and a rootfs image do not constitute a "distro".

You did not follow all the instructions from that web page.
You did not build and use version Linux 3.5.
You are not using an AT91SAM9G20-EK board as in the example.
You did not read all the text on that web page such as:

> name of the device may change to some form like "fc034000.adc" instead of simply "at91_adc"

That web page was last updated three days before your post, and I see an example that matches your alleged missing name.

I did follow the instructions on that page that applied to the situation.

My report isn't that the ADC buffer isn't working or that I don't reach success after following the instructions.
It was check to see if that different name isn't a typo when the page was recently updated. I believe that the neither-part in post above answers that question fully.
