Tools to develop on OS X

Tue Feb 25, 2014 5:10 am

I just purchased the SamA5D3x-EK and would like to do some development running the Android, but there is no SAM-BA for OS X. Are there any tools I can use to flash the OS into NAND?

I've found some tools like Bossa and MacSamba, but they do not work for this board/chip.

The two obivous choices are:

A. port/recompile SAM-BA for OS X. The source code and patches are available.

B. build a bare-metal toolchain (i.e. no libc), and then build AT91Bootstrap and U-Boot for SDcard booting.
Configure U-Boot to load images from Ethernet, SDcard, and/or USB flash drive. Configure U-Boot to support your NAND flash device, your partition scheme and the filesystem (e.g. UBIFS).
Using U-Boot may not be as convenient as a GUI, but it's a method that only needs SDcard booting on the target board and a terminal emulator on the host PC.
