2.4 vs 2.6

Wed Jul 06, 2005 3:49 pm

Any idea on the number of 2.6 users? I have not seen much feedback on the 2.6 kernel and think Atmel should post an "official" 2.6 gz. Seems like that would be mo betta. (as opposed to running up a series of patches)

2.6.12.2 ramdisk, LKM, insmod

Wed Jul 06, 2005 11:55 pm

ok, i have compiled 2.6.12.2 with latest patch and it comes up fine. I had to fiddle with head.S to trick the 'machine ID'. The supplied Atmel ramdisk does not have insmod that works with 2.6.

Does anyone have a nice ramdisk for 2.6.12???

thanks
bruce

(i have compiled my LKMs for 2.6 now)

Linux 2.6 etc

Yes, I'm using 2.6.12. The problem you had with the machine ID is apparently because u-boot is using the incorrect id - I have a patch for u-boot if you want one.

I now have quite a few utilities cross-compiled for arm, including insmod I think, but I'm actually doing it so that I can build a native compiler on arm, which I havn't quite managed to do yet :(

When I've built a compiler I'm planning to look at the ramdisk . . .
