at91 is a mainline kernel ?

Hello,

I tried to ask it several times, but got no answer.

What is at91 kernel ? Is it a mainline kernel ? Does it contains patches ?
Does a mainline kernel should also work with these devices ?

Thank you,

Hi,

Yes, our linux-X.Y-at91 branches are based on Mainline Linux kernel (corresponding to X.Y.Z variants).
We basically take a Mainline kernel, add the "stable" patches (corresponding to the "Z" variant above) and add our AT91 specific patches which are basically the features and board variants that we are submitting to Mainline. As this process can take time, we provide a "preview" of our current work as an AT91 branch on Linux4SAM.org.

We've been doing it for more than 10 years and are always integrating our changes to Linux Mainline. So, yes, you can also use Mainline Linux as well for most of our products.

Hope that it clarifies.

Best regards
