simple linux device driver

hi
i have succeded in building the toolchain and linux kernel versions 2.6.10 and 2.6.14..for the at91rm9200 kit..both work fine. i now wanted to try my hand at writing a driver. could some1 please guide me as to which simple device i could write for first..also if there is any tutorial around that would be useful.

im guessing that this would have to be written as a module which i could then link dynamically to the kernel..where would i have to store the module n how to i call on it?

Linux Device Drivers is a new book available for free at
http://lwn.net/Kernel/LDD3/

Which will probably tell you all you need to know and more for writing drivers.

Let us know how it goes - I suspect this is something many of us will eventually have to do.
